Two cows escaped from a mini ranch in unincorporated Lake County and hung out in a nearby parking lot for a couple of hours until the owner came and picked them up Saturday morning, sheriff’s officials said.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies on patrol around 7 a.m. Saturday stumbled upon the runaway cows near Route 120 and Wilson Road in unincorporated Round Lake.
Covelli said the deputies attempted to locate the owner of the livestock before the sheriff’s department took to Facebook with numerous puns to find the owner.
“This is no bull. Actually, we think it is!! If you’ll “bull-ieve” it, these two have been chilling in a parking lot for the past hour or so near Route 120 and Wilson Road in Unincorporated Round Lake,” the post said. “We’re “bull-ish” on the idea of finding their owner, so they can help corral them.”
The post continued, “So, if you’re the owner, or you know who the owner might be, please call us at 847-549-5200. But, please, don’t “steer” us wrong!! We must “bullieve” in the process”
Covelli said the owner of the cows saw the Facebook post at about 9:30 a.m., then came out to the parking lot with a trailer to help deputies wrangle the cows up and take them home.
As a 10 a.m. update, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook, “We “herd” you and weren’t “steered” wrong! We’re officially “closing the gate” on this one, as we found the owners, so you can all “moo-ve” on and enjoy America’s 250th Birthday!!”
Covelli said no cows or humans were injured during the incident.
