Firefighters rescued a dog and a cat after a fire broke out in a condominium building in Lake in the Hills and left multiple homes uninhabitable due to damage Sunday evening.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 8:10 p.m. Sunday to The Oaks of Prairie Point Condominiums in the 1300 block of Cunat Court in Lake in the Hills.
Fire officials said a fire alarm was activated and triggered the initial fire department response.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in approximately three minutes and encountered smoke coming from a third-floor condominium unit.
Firefighters and police officers immediately began evacuating the surrounding condo units within the building.
The incident was upgraded to a working fire response, prompting additional resources to respond to the scene.
The fire was declared under control around 8:35 p.m. after it was extinguished by the building’s automatic sprinkler system, fire officials said.
There were no resident or firefighter injuries reported.
Fire officials said firefighters successfully rescued a dog and a cat from the affected building and safely reunited them with their family.
Multiple condominium units were deemed uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined and a damage estimate was not immediately available, fire officials said.
The fire remains under active investigation by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.
