Police are working to identify individuals who made a hoax call about explosives at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee that prompted an emergency response Friday afternoon.
The Gurnee Police Department received a report at around 4:30 p.m. Friday of possible explosive devices inside the park.
“Within minutes of the initial call, law enforcement was contacted by a Florida-based Threat Management team advising that the call was believed to be a hoax,” Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said.
“The team had information indicating the individuals involved were associated with similar swatting incidents in other jurisdictions,” Gaylor added.
The Gurnee Police Department worked with Great America park security and conducted additional security measures.
The Gurnee Fire Department also responded to the park and was on standby.
The exact security measures were not specified, but Gaylor said they were done “out of an abundance of caution.”
Police did not locate any explosive devices, suspicious items or credible threats.
“At this time, there is no known threat to the public,” Gaylor said.
The Gurnee Police Department is continuing to work with other police agencies to identify the individuals responsible for making the call.
