ICE agents arrested at least two people in the parking lot of a manufacturing plant in Waukegan Wednesday morning after recently making another arrest at a nearby warehouse.
The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) said Wednesday afternoon that the Lake County Rapid Response Team confirmed ICE activity in Lake County.
ICE agents “abducted” two people at Thermoflex Corporation, 1514 South Lakeside Drive in Waukegan, on Wednesday morning, the ICIRR said.
Thermoflex manufactures products such as car mats and liners and exterior car trim.
An alert sent to subscribers said agents were possibly still in the area and warned people to be aware.
The arrests, which occurred in the parking lot, come less than two months after federal agents arrested a man on May 13 outside Uline, 2105 South Lakeside Drive in Waukegan, which is down the street from Thermoflex.
He was detained and taken away in a black SUV with no markings.
Agents also arrested people that day in the area of Belvidere Road and Powell Avenue in Waukegan and in the area of Catrachos Restaurant, 330 South Green Bay Road in Waukegan.
“Remember: You have the right to film police activity, the right to remain silent, the right to speak to an attorney, and the right to refuse to sign anything,” ICIRR said.
The organization said anyone who encounters federal agents is reminded to stay calm, remain silent and report the encounter to ICIRR’s Family Support Hotline at 855-435-7693.
People are also recommended to ask, “Am I under arrest?” and “Am I free to go?” if they suspect they might be arrested by ICE, ICIRR said.
In April, federal agents were spotted in Lake Bluff making a possible immigration arrest in the 500 block of Moffet Road, near Center Avenue. At least four federal agents were present and two of them had masks, ICIRR said.
DHS previously said there were several thousand arrests during Operation Midway Blitz, part of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown, in the Chicago area last year. It started in September and wound down in November.
