An Arlington Heights man was arrested after police say he fired a gun in the direction of another person, striking the victim’s vehicle, at a condominium complex in Buffalo Grove Saturday morning.
Ernie Dotson, 38, of Arlington Heights, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The charges come following an investigation conducted by the Buffalo Grove Police Department into an incident that occurred at The Arbors of Buffalo Grove on Oak Creek Drive.
Buffalo Grove police officers responded around 9 a.m. Saturday to The Arbors to assist Cook County Sheriff’s Office deputies following a domestic incident.
Officers arrived and learned that Dotson produced and discharged a firearm in the direction of another individual in The Arbors’ parking lot during the altercation, police officials said.
The gunfire struck the victim’s vehicle but no one was injured.
Cook County sheriff’s deputies had already detained Dotson, along with a juvenile family member, prior to the arrival of Buffalo Grove police officers, police officials said.
Both subjects were transported in custody to the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
Police officials said investigators recovered the firearm believed to have been used during the shooting in the vicinity of the altercation.
Investigators presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the multiple felony charges against Dotson.
The juvenile family member was released without charges.
Police said the domestic battery charge against Dotson stems from an incident that occurred in unincorporated Cook County and that the juvenile who was briefly taken into custody was not the same person as the victim who was shot.

Dotson was transported to the Cook County Jail on Sunday and attended his first court appearance.
He remains held in the Cook County Jail until his next court hearing on August 7.
