Riders were forced to walk down Six Flags Great America’s newest roller coaster after it got stuck for over an hour during extreme heat on Tuesday, as several other rides also reportedly experienced hiccups.

Wrath of Rakshasa, Great America’s newest ride that opened on May 31, 2025, in the County Fair section, got stuck at around noon on Tuesday.

Wrath of Rakshasa is “the steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world,” Great America’s website says. The ride is 3,239 feet long and around 180 feet high.

“Feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins as you navigate this sinister design, crafted to both thrill and terrify,” Great America describes the ride.

“Gather your bravest companions, and prepare to confront the demon that awaits. Wrath of Rakshasa promises an unforgettable experience that will test your courage and leave you breathless.”

Multiple videos posted on social media, like by @dazedviolet and @5.0purpleppleater on TikTok, showed the stuck ride.

@dazedviolet’s video, which has been viewed over a million times, shows a line of riders being escorted down the stairs of Wrath of Rakshasa.

Several people reported the ride was stuck for at least one hour and possibly up to 2-3 hours.

It was approximately 90-95 degrees in Gurnee at the time.

“A helicopter would have to come get me,” a TikTok user commented.

“I got 50$ and three flags passes on wrath bro I was sweating balls,” another user said.

Several other rides reportedly experienced malfunctions on Tuesday, including the Goliath, @5.0purpleppleater’s video showed.

Lake & McHenry County Scanner reached out to Great America officials multiple times this week to learn more about what happened on Tuesday, but we have not heard back.

It’s unclear what caused the hiccups for the Wrath of Rakshasa and other rides.

Riders who experienced the hiccups were reportedly offered Fast Lane vouchers for the inconvenience.

One park-goer, who goes by Kooky-Writing2919 on Reddit, said he was stuck on multiple rides and received a total of six vouchers on Tuesday.

“Kinda worth it lol,” Kooky-Writing2919 said.
