A driver was arrested after police say he crashed into another vehicle and fled the scene and then soon after caused another crash where he rolled his car over in North Chicago.
The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 6:54 p.m. on July 7 to the area of 11th Street and Jackson Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived and reported three vehicles involved with moderate to heavy damage.
North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said officers arrived and found it was actually two separate crash scenes.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee was exiting an alley in the 1100 block of Jackson Street.
The Jeep struck a 2008 Chrysler Sebring as the Jeep was pulling out of the alley, Lunn said. The Jeep then fled the scene.
The Jeep soon after crashed into a 2011 Toyota Sienna in the 1000 block of Jackson Street, which caused the Jeep to rollover, Lunn said.
Video from a bystander showed the driver of the Jeep crawling out of the vehicle, which was on its roof.
The North Chicago Fire Department responded to the scene and evaluated all occupants involved for injuries.
No one requested transport to the hospital, Lunn said.
The Jeep was towed due to the damage and the other two vehicles were driven away from the scene.
Lunn said the 34-year-old male driver of the Jeep was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
He was transported to the North Chicago Police Department for processing and later released with charges and a future court date.
