Firefighters rescued a dog and birds after a fire broke out and sent flames from a house, leaving the residents homeless, in Lake in the Hills Friday evening, fire officials said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 8:22 p.m. Friday to the 1100 block of Spruce Street in Lake in the Hills for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in approximately three minutes and an active house fire.
Fire officials said smoke and flames were coming from the rear exterior of the single-family residence.
The fire was also extending into the home’s attic.
The incident was upgraded to a Working Fire response, bringing in additional fire personnel and apparatus to the scene to help in extinguishing the blaze.
Fire crews quickly initiated a “coordinated fire attack” by extinguishing it from both the exterior and interior of the home, fire officials said.
They were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it within approximately 15 minutes at 8:40 p.m.
Firefighters safely rescued a dog and two birds from the residence, fire officials said.
All three animals rescued were unharmed. No residents or firefighters were injured during the incident.
Fire officials siad a damage estimate was immediately available but the home has been deemed uninhabitable, forcing the residents to seek alternative arrangements.
The Huntley Fire Protection District, Carpentersville Fire Department, Crystal Lake Fire-Rescue Department, Cary Fire Protection District and the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District assisted.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Fire Investigation Team.
