A man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after a tree fell down onto him while he was trying to cut it down at a home in Algonquin Wednesday morning.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Algonquin Police Department responded around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of Harper Drive in Algonquin for a traumatic injury call.
Fire officials said there was a tree-cutting incident reported involving an adult male who was injured.
Paramedics arrived in two minutes and found the man, who was approximately 40, had been struck by a falling tree while working to cut it down.
The victim was on the ground with serious injuries that required immediate medical attention, fire officials said.
Paramedics quickly began providing advanced medical care and requested a medical helicopter for transport to a Level 1 trauma center.
A landing zone initially was going to be established at the soccer field at Gaslight Park, which is nearby.
Fire officials said the victim was stabilized and was instead transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.
A LifeNet medical helicopter landed at the hospital and the victim was transferred to the flight crew.
The helicopter flew the victim to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge due to the severity of his injuries.
Fire officials said the current condition of the victim, who was the homeowner, is currently unknown.
