A man suffered second-degree burns to his face and hands after a candle exploded at a mobile home park in unincorporated Antioch Thursday evening, fire officials said.
The Antioch Fire Department responded around 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, to the Dolphin Harbor Mobile Home Park, 26222 West Oak Avenue in unincorporated Antioch, for a report of a burn victim.
“While enroute, our ambulance crew was advised that an adult male had sustained burns to his face and hands after a candle reportedly exploded,” Antioch Fire Chief Ian Kazian said.
A medical helicopter from LifeNet was requested to be put on standby for the potential need for air medical transport.
Firefighter/medics were later informed that the helicopter was unable to respond due to decreased visibility from the Canadian wildfires.
After around five minutes on scene, firefighter/medics rushed the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Kazian said.
The man suffered second-degree burns to his face, neck and hands.
He was alert and oriented with the medics the entire time, Kazian added.
