A woman was seriously injured and flown to the hospital after a crash involving a minivan and a semi-truck that left two trapped in the wreckage in Woodstock Friday afternoon.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 3:27 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Route 120, also known as McHenry Avenue, and Irving Avenue in Woodstock for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived within minutes and located a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a minivan with heavy damage, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said.

Two adult occupants inside the minivan were trapped and required extrication.

The driver of the semi-truck had exited his vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency crews and initially reported no injuries, Vucha said.

Firefighters and paramedics began providing medical care to both trapped occupants while simultaneously working to extricate them from the minivan.

Vucha said the driver of the minivan suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone at Marian Central High School.

She was transferred to a LifeNet medical helicopter and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further treatment.

The second occupant of the minivan and the adult male driver of the semi-truck were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals with injuries believed to be minor in nature.

The semi-truck was not hauling any product or hazardous materials at the time of the collision, Vucha said.

McHenry Avenue was closed in both directions between Irving Avenue and Northampton Street while emergency crews treated patients, extricated the trapped occupants and cleared the scene. The roadway reopened shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts assisted at the scene while the Huntley Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District provided station coverage during the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department. It is unclear whether any citations or charges have been filed.
