An Ingleside home remains habitable after major damage was prevented due to the quick actions of firefighters in containing a fire in the walls of a bedroom Tuesday evening.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday to the 36400 block of North Fairfield Road in Ingleside for a smoke investigation inside a home.
A fire engine and a battalion chief from the Lake Villa Fire Protection District initially responded.
Firefighters arrived and found light smoke coming from the chimney area of the two-story home, Lake Villa Battalion Fire Chief Jay Vance said.
The call was then upgraded to a structure fire, which brought in more resources from fire departments around the area and deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews confirmed the three residents had evacuated, Vance said.
Firefighters found a fire in the exterior wall of a second-floor bedroom near an electrical outlet.
Hose lines were deployed, and around 25 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire in minutes, Vance said.
Water tenders responded to the scene because the area does not have fire hydrants, but they were not needed.
Firefighters remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations.
No one was injured, Vance said.
Fairfield Road was temporarily shut down by deputies while firefighters worked at the scene.
The house remains habitable, and major damage was prevented thanks to the quick actions of the first two firefighting crews.
“The actions of the first Lake Villa engine company as well as a Fox Lake tender company kept the fire from spreading beyond the stud space around the outlet and it was contained in the wall,” Lake Villa Deputy Fire Chief Adam Becker said.
The Antioch, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Greater Round Lake and Gurnee fire departments assisted at the scene.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A relative of the residents posted on Facebook to try and find the Good Samaritans who stopped and helped everyone evacuate.
“She can’t remember their names but she remembers they drove a white pick up truck with a topper on it,” the relative said.
“Just want to be able to say thank you,” the relative added.
