A child was expected to survive but was transported to the hospital after a near-drowning while at Six Flags Great America Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee, authorities said.
The Gurnee Fire Department responded around 4:35 p.m. Sunday to Six Flags Great America Hurricane Harbor, 1 Great America Parkway in Gurnee, for a report of a drowning.
Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Gramer said the juvenile victim was out of the water prior to fire department paramedics’ arrival.
The child, an 11-year-old girl, was being treated by Six Flags paramedics who transferred care to the fire department.
The child was conscious, breathing and talking to paramedics following the incident.
The girl was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was stable.
It is unknown who pulled the girl from the water.
Gramer said Six Flags paramedics worked well with the fire department at the scene.
Six Flags Great America did not respond to a request for information from Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Gramer said he did not have additional information on the circumstances of the incident.
