An elderly woman was left trapped inside her car after she somehow rolled her SUV over onto its side inside the garage of her home near Long Grove, fire officials said.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:55 p.m. Monday to the 3900 block of North Galena Avenue in unincorporated Arlington Heights, just south of Long Grove, for a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Long Grove Fire Protection District Chief Paul Segalla said a 911 caller reported a vehicle was inside a garage and rolled over.
Firefighters arrived and confirmed a vehicle rolled over onto its side inside the attached garage of a single-family house.

Fire crews removed the garage door so they could access the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Cross.
They also removed the adjacent vehicle that was parked in the garage so that they could access the rolled-over car, Segalla said.

Firefighters used extrication tools to cut open the car and remove the 74-year-old female driver.
She was assessed in an ambulance by paramedics but ultimately declined transport to the hospital, Segalla said.

The woman was the sole occupant of the car and it took approximately 20 minutes to extricate her.
She was a resident of the home, which had another occupant inside watching television, Segalla said. That occupant heard the crash, came out and called 911.

The home remained habitable as there was no major structural damage to the home.
Segalla said multiple fire departments, including Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Wheeling, assisted at the scene.

A tow truck pulled the damaged vehicle out of the garage and removed it from the scene.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known and was being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
