Two teens and two adults were arrested after police say a verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight at the Burger King in Gurnee Thursday afternoon.
The Gurnee Police Department responded around 3:15 p.m. Thursday to Burger King, 5300 Grand Avenue, for a report of a disturbance.
Officers received a report that the disturbance involved two groups of people, Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said.
“The preliminary investigation determined that the groups did not know one another and a verbal interaction between them escalated into a physical altercation,” Gaylor said.
Police arrived and separated the people involved.
“During the investigation, officers determined that a 16-year-old female initiated the confrontation,” Gaylor said.
That girl was taken into custody and referred to juvenile court for battery.
“A 15-year-old male was also taken into custody after briefly struggling with officers,” Gaylor said.
That boy was also referred to juvenile court for disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer.
The Gurnee Fire Department transported both teens to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for minor injuries, Gaylor added.
Two adults – a 24-year-old Hazel Crest woman and a 25-year-old Riverdale woman – were also arrested and charged with battery.
Police did not release the pair’s identities.
The fight prompted a large police response to the restaurant.
Gurnee police detectives were also investigating at the scene.
The restaurant appeared to remain open and operating as usual following the incident.
