A home was damaged and is uninhabitable after a pickup truck became engulfed in flames in the driveway and spread to the garage in Round Lake Sunday afternoon.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, Round Lake Police Department and automatic aid fire departments responded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of West Pineview Drive in Round Lake for a report of a structure fire.
A neighbor told Lake & McHenry County Scanner that she heard a loud boom and then another boom shortly after.
She went outside to see what happened and saw a Ford F-Series pickup truck on fire in the driveway of a home.
While on the phone with 911, she saw and heard two or three more booms.
The truck then became fully engulfed in flames.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Lt. Shane Page, who was the acting shift commander, said that crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the vehicle.
The fire was spreading to the garage of the two-story, single-family home.
A box alarm through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was requested, bringing in additional resources from fire departments in Lake and McHenry counties.
Emergency vehicles lined along Hillandale Street and along West Pineview Drive.
“The fire was extinguished in 10-15 minutes and crews worked to remove smoke and limit water damage with ventilation and salvage,” Page said.
A fire hydrant west of the home was used to establish a water supply.
The home was not occupied at the time.
The homeowner was notified and later arrived at the scene, Page added.
No one was injured, but the house is currently uninhabitable until the utilities can be turned back on.
The fire remains under investigation by the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District.
