A man on parole allegedly fled from police in North Chicago and went to Gurnee Mills, where he resisted arrest and caused an officer to injure their wrist while they were seizing his car last month, prosecutors said.
Toddellion Yarbrough, 33, of Waukegan, was charged with resisting a peace officer causing injury, obstructing a peace officer and fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer.
On July 10, North Chicago police officers allegedly saw Yarbrough make a hand-to-hand transaction in North Chicago, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd told Lake County Judge Ari Fisz during a first appearance hearing.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Yarbrough, but he allegedly fled.
Yarbrough allegedly went to the Gurnee Mills mall in Gurnee.
The North Chicago police officers located his car at the mall and tried to tow it, Shepherd said.
Yarbrough allegedly walked past the officers, and they tried to place him under arrest.
During the arrest, Yarbrough allegedly pulled away and caused one of the officers to sustain a wrist injury, Shepherd added.
Yarbrough’s charges are non-detainable under the SAFE-T Act, so he was released with pre-trial conditions, including not possessing firearms, not consuming any alcohol or drugs and having a curfew.
Yarbrough is also on parole after being sentenced to 12 years in prison in March 2023 for drug charges stemming from an incident in Waukegan in January 2022, court records show.
He was ordered to be held by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).
Yarbrough remains in the custody of IDOC, corrections records show.
