A man reportedly armed with a gun, which turned out to be a replica, prompted a police response in Woodstock where officers armed with rifles were seen chasing the suspect and taking him into custody.
Oscar Arreola, 30, of Woodstock, was charged with obstructing justice, three counts of disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges that Arreola alarmed and disturbed multiple people around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The complaint said Arreola was walking in the parking lot of the Silver Creek Apartments, 1536 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, with what bystanders believed was a black handgun in his hand.
The Woodstock Police Department responded and Arreola resisted arrest by running from officers, the complaint said.
The complaint said Arreola refused lawful orders to stop and then tried ditching the replica BB gun he was possessing.
Arreola concealed the black pistol replica BB gun underneath a cooler on the patio of an apartment at the complex, the complaint said.
A video taken by a bystander captured a police officer with a rifle yelling for the suspect to stop and giving chase near Bates Park.
Arreola was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Jail.
He appeared in Initial Appearance Court on Saturday and was released with pre-trial conditions as the offenses are non-detainable under the Illinois SAFE-T Act.
McHenry County Judge Jennifer Johnson ordered Arreola to have no contact with the victims, not go to the apartment complex where the incident occurred, not possess dangerous weapons and not leave the state without court permission.
Arreola is scheduled to appear in court again on October 8 for a preliminary hearing.
