A resident was left homeless and a firefighter was transported to the hospital after fire officials say a fire broke out and caused significant damage to a residence in Woodstock early Friday morning.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 1:23 a.m. Friday to the 600 block of Clay Street in Woodstock for a report of a structure fire.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said the homeowner called 911 to report the fire.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and observed smoke and flames showing from a small two-story home.
The incident was quickly upgraded to a Working Fire response, bringing additional resources to the scene and fire units to provide coverage within Woodstock’s fire district.
Firefighters entered the home and encountered heavy flames on the first floor.
They also encountered a significant amount of household contents that contributed to the fire conditions and limited access within portions of the home.
Fire crews pulled hose lines into the residence while additional firefighters searched the home and checked for extension of the fire into surrounding rooms and the second floor.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 20 minutes. The majority of the fire damage was contained to a room on the first floor.
The remainder of the home sustained smoke and significant water damage.
A firefighter was medically evaluated at the scene for a non-injury-related concern and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, Vucha said. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no pets were involved.
The home was deemed uninhabitable until repairs can be made.
The resident of the home was displaced but did not require assistance with temporary housing.
Firefighters remained on the scene for overhaul operations and investigation until shortly before 4 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
