Two people were transported to the hospital after a T-bone-style crash left both victims trapped inside their vehicles on the border of Waukegan and Gurnee, fire officials said.
The Gurnee Fire Department, Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Northwestern Avenue and Sunset Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Steffens said parts of the intersection are in Gurnee and other parts are in Waukegan so both agencies responded.
Emergency crews arrived and found a two-vehicle crash east of the intersection. It was determined the crash was in Waukegan.
Fire crews found a pickup truck and a sedan involved with moderate damage, Steffens said.
Both vehicles were occupied only by the drivers, an adult male and an adult female, and both were trapped inside the wreckage.
Steffens said firefighters worked to extricate both drivers and paramedics transported one of them to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
The other driver was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Their injuries were non-life-threatening, Steffens said, describing the crash as a T-bone-style impact.
Sunset Avenue was partially blocked during the incident as the pickup truck remained in the roadway. The sedan was off the roadway.
Tow trucks responded and removed both vehicles, allowing the roadway to be fully reopened.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Waukegan Police Department and it was unclear whether any citations were issued.
