A Woodstock man has been sentenced to four years in prison after prosecutors say he was caught drug dealing large amounts of cocaine while under police surveillance.
Jose Garcia, 30, of Woodstock, pleaded guilty earlier this month to unlawful possession of 15-100 grams of cocaine, a Class 1 felony.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt sentenced Garcia to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the negotiated plea.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force began an investigation after they received information that Garcia was known to possess and sell large amounts of cocaine and other illicit substances, prosecutors said.
Surveillance was conducted and Garcia was observed to be engaged in the active sale of drugs, prosecutors said.
He was caught selling over 55 grams of cocaine in November 2022 and December 2022 while under surveillance, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said search warrants were obtained and executed. 46 THC vaporizer cartridges containing one gram of THC were found in his apartment.
Garcia was later arrested in another jurisdiction and extradited to McHenry County.
“Drug dealers have no place within our community and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent,” McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally said after the sentencing hearing.
In exchange for Garcia’s plea, the rest of his charges were dismissed, including a Class X felony.
