A 41-year-old woman is in custody on charges alleging that she repeatedly sexually assaulted a teenage boy while holding a position of trust or authority over the child, police said.
The Barrington Police Department received a report from another agency on June 8 regarding a child sexual assault that occurred in Barrington.
Barrington Chief of Police David Daigle said the case was transferred to his department and an investigation began.
Daigle said the report involved allegations of sexual contact between a 16-year-old boy and Veronica M. Reyes, 41, of Barrington.
Detectives learned that the alleged sexual assaults occurred on multiple occasions on separate dates, Daigle said.
The victim and Reyes knew each other, Daigle added.
The Barrington Police Department said they worked closely with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Specialized Victims Unit.
Detectives obtained a warrant on Monday charging Reyes with four counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
The warrant alleges Reyes committed multiple sex acts on the child from February 10 to February 20 and February 24 to March 13.
The warrant said Reyes held a position of trust, authority or supervision over the juvenile, which enhances the charges.
Reyes was arrested on Tuesday and transported to the Lake County Jail to await a First Appearance Court hearing.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to detain her pending trial.
She remains held in custody awaiting her initial court hearing.
