A man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries after driving his motorcycle off the roadway and crashing along Route 12, leaving him briefly unconscious, near Spring Grove.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded around 2:15 p.m. on September 7 to the area of Route 12 and Gray Street in unincorporated Spring Grove for a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a motorcycle crash and the rider was unconscious but breathing, according to fire department radio traffic.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby but ultimately canceled.
Spring Grove Fire Chief Paul Klicker said an ambulance ground transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
Klicker said the victim was the sole rider of the motorcycle and had regained consciousness when crews arrived.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Matusek-Baker said an investigation showed the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 12 near Gray Street.
The motorcyclist left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed, Matusek-Baker said.
The operator, who was off the motorcycle, was spotted by neighbors. Deputies shut down Route 12 temporarily until emergency crews cleared the scene.
Matusek-Baker said the victim was transported with serious injuries.
The sheriff’s office has not said whether any citations were issued or what the motorcycle crashed into.
