A 23-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after police say he drove drunk and crashed his motorcycle, which resulted in him being thrown from the bike on Route 41 in Lake Forest.
The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 12:02 a.m. September 13 to the area of Route 41 and Route 60 for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk said officers arrived and found a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.
An initial investigation showed that a southbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the western curb near the Route 60 right-turn lane median for unknown reasons, Zelk said.
The operator was ejected from the motorcycle and fire crews reported finding him down on the ground.
The Lake Forest Fire Department provided emergency medical treatment at the scene and transported the driver to Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital with serious injuries.
The man was later transferred to another hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries, Zelk said.
Witnesses at the scene assisted officers in determining the sequence of events of the crash. No other vehicle or passengers were involved.
Southbound Route 41 was shut down for approximately an hour while police processed the scene and a tow truck cleared the damaged motorcycle.
Zelk said the operator of the motorcycle was identified as Brayden G Osborne, 23, of Danville.
Osborne has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and no insurance.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Waukegan for an initial hearing on October 2.
The incident is the second serious motorcycle crash on Route 41 at Route 60 in recent weeks.
A preliminary investigation showed a man in his 40s was operating a motorcycle southbound on Route 41 around 12:45 a.m. on August 23.
The operator lost control of the motorcycle for unknown reasons just south of Route 60, Zelk said.
The motorcycle collided with the center median barrier and the man was ejected.
Zelk said paramedics transported him to Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital for treatment of possible serious injuries.
Zelk said alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in both collisions.
The Lake Forest Police Department said it reminds all motorists to drive sober or arrange a safe ride home if consuming alcohol or drugs.
