A 50-year-old man was seriously injured after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing, resulting in him briefly losing consciousness in Fox Lake Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Saturday to Route 173 and Wilmot Road in Fox Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said fire crews responding were advised by dispatch that a motorcycle was down.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle with the rider down in the roadway.
Damos said the motorcycle appeared to be southbound on Wilmot Road north of Route 173.
The operator reportedly lost control and skidded out before falling to the ground, approximately 50 feet north of Route 173, Damos said.
He was not thrown from the motorcycle, according to bystanders, who reported the motorcycle was not traveling at a high speed.
It is possible that the motorcycle, operated by a 50-year-old man, hit a patch of gravel, Damos said.
The victim was initially unconscious when bystanders stopped to help and call 911. He was conscious when paramedics arrived, Damos said.
The motorcycle sustained minor damage and the man was the sole occupant.
He was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Damos said.
A tow truck responded to remove the damaged motorcycle. The intersection remained open during the incident.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Fox Lake Police Department. It is unknown whether any citations were issued.
