A worker was flown to the hospital with critical injuries after he was electrocuted and fell from a ladder at a store under construction in Woodstock Wednesday afternoon.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday to Dollar General, 2020 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, for a report of an electrocution incident.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said the incident occurred at the site of a new Dollar General under construction.
A 911 caller reported a person had sustained a significant electrical injury.
Paramedics arrived and located the adult male, who is in his 40s. He was semi-conscious inside the store.
Vucha said initial reports indicated the man had been working from a tall ladder.
He suffered the electrical injury and fell from the ladder as a result, Vucha said.
A medical helicopter was requested due to the severity of his injuries and landed at the scene.
The victim was transferred to the flight crew and airlifted to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
Vucha said the man suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. His current condition was not known.
The City of Woodstock Building & Planning Department was requested to the scene following the incident.
