Authorities say a 60-year-old man suffered minor injuries after a gunman opened fire on his truck while he was driving on Route 41 in Highland Park Friday morning.
The Highland Park Fire Department and Highland Park Police Department responded around 10:12 a.m. Friday to the area of Route 41 and Central Avenue in Highland Park for a report of a person shot.
An approximately 60-year-old man was driving northbound on Route 41 south of Central Avenue in a pickup truck, according to the City of Highland Park.
The driver heard gunshots from a passing vehicle and observed damage to his vehicle.
The driver safely pulled over ahead at the Shell gas station on the corner of Route 41 and Park Avenue to make a report to the police.
The victim’s Chevrolet pickup truck had its passenger-side window shot out.
The victim was able to obtain the license plate number and description of the vehicle he believed was involved, city officials said.
He was evaluated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
City officials said police believe the vehicle of interest has left the area.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle, described as a dark blue Acura MDX with license plate FF68243.
Investigators are working to determine the jurisdiction of the incident since the driver did not immediately stop in the area where it occurred. The Illinois State Police also responded to the scene.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 911.
