Two guns recovered during separate arrests were traced back to a Lake Zurich woman who state police say bought the firearms as personal purchases and then sold them to people barred from having guns, including a felon.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested Tanqueray McBride, 25, of Lake Zurich.
McBride was arrested following an investigation of illegal straw purchasing multiple firearms and selling at least one to a convicted felon, state police said.
State troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 290 in August 2025 and recovered a gun.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for felony aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.
State police said the gun was sent to a crime lab for testing and the investigation continued.
It was discovered in March that the firearm from the I-290 traffic stop had been originally purchased by McBride.
ISP special agents also learned that another firearm purchased by McBride had been recovered during a separate arrest in Lake County in November 2025.
An “exhaustive” investigation showed that McBride legally purchased the guns but claimed them as personal purchases, state police said.
She then sold the firearms to people who were not legally allowed to possess firearms, also known as a straw purchase, state police said.
ISP presented the case to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office on September 16.
The office approved the charges of unlawful purchase of a firearm with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony; unlawful delivery of a firearm to a felon, a Class 3 felony; and perjury, a Class 3 felony.
An arrest warrant was issued for McBride and she turned herself in to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office last Thursday.
McBride appeared for an initial appearance court hearing and was released from custody after no petition to detain was filed, according to court records.
Kane County Judge Bianca Camargo did not place McBride on pre-trial supervision but ordered her to surrender her firearms, court records show.
McBride is scheduled to appear in court again on November 12 for a status hearing.
